Supervision

'Good supervision, we believe, should allow for a two-way flow in which both supervisor and supervisee are responsive to each other's input. Supervision therefore becomes a dynamic learning and developmental process in which both parties learn and grow together'. (Page and Wosket 1994:40)

I trained for clinical supervision at the Centre for Supervision and Team Development www.cstd.co.uk with Robin Shohet co-author of 'Supervision in the helping professions'. Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet developed the "7 eyed model" of supervision for counselling practitioners.

I provide individual and group supervision to people in the counselling, psychotherapy and health care professions.

I believe that all human beings have the capacity to reach their full potential regardless of upbringing, culture of origin, gender, age and any other aspect of diversity.

I have many years experience working with people with a wide range of mental health problems and have learned how each individual is unique and how different people may benefit from different approaches to tackling their difficulties. My professional development as a therapist, trainer and supervisor has been informed by these values and this is reflected in my choices for my own training, supervision and development.

I have training in various modalities of therapeutic work including person-centred counselling, core process psychotherapy, CBT, family and systemic practice, emotionally focused couples therapy (EFT), pre- and perinatal psychology and professional supervisor with CSTD. During my career I have gained experience working with people with eating disorders, people with experiences of severe abuse in childhood, people with terminal illness and with students as a counsellor at the University of Plymouth. I work with individuals, couples and families, I offer both long-term therapy and shorter term therapy (for EAP programmes, for instance).

As a trainer, I have written and conducted counselling courses at diploma level and run courses in Mindfulness and Meditation. My early career was spent working as a manager for a large utility company, where I gained valuable business experience.

Three year ago I established a centre for counselling and psychotherapy practice. This centre - the Waterloo Wellbeing Centre - offers psychotherapy, counselling, mindfulness training and counselling training. The Centre is available for hire to counsellors, psychotherapists and clinical psychologist for talking therapies. We have a dedicated training room for training events, talks and workshops for those in the helping and healthcare professions,

I have been working as a supervisor for many years and am able to offer individual and group supervision to people in the counselling, psychotherapy, health care and educational professions.

TESTIMONIAL

I have been receiving supervision from Julie for approximately 2 years and in that time I have found it to be hugely beneficial. Julie has helped me reflect on many of the issues that I face on a day to day basis and given me the support to move through them. I believe I have grown both personally and professionally as a result of working with her.
